Taking custody of our heart is like sharpening our axe. We should sharpen our axe if we want to retain our vital energy, if we value individual and social peace, and if we seek success and fulfilment in our job. I would like to remind us all that we should take the time to think comprehensively through this subject. The purity of our heart is important where it concerns and the strengthening of our health, mind, spirit, character. This is why Syriac literature places strong emphasis on a pure heart and robust spirit. It studies these life-enhancing moral tenets extensively. For a pure heart and robust spirit combined with the essence of life, form a meaningful whole. 

Syriac writers show in their literary works that a civilization cannot exist without literature and vice versa. The works penned by Saint Mor Aphrem (303-373), who brought metaphysical dimensions to the poetry and prose of Syriac literature, are a concrete indicator of this. Mor Aphrem, the creator of a profound literary tradition in this context, made large contributions to the development of thought, strengthening of actions, help and solidarity, and the world of knowledge and wisdom. These contributions which provide harmony and order between the worlds of spirit-meaning and body-matter, whisper the secrets of righteousness, goodness, and beauty to us, the travelers on the road of life. For he and the writers that followed in his steps believed that civilization would not advance without a strong literature. So much so that they noticed this very early on and did what was necessary through their literary productivity.

Since time immemorial, literature has been an effective force in the transformation of people and societies. Literary works possess attributes that do not lose relevancy. Therefore, I have translated into Turkish a prayer by Saint Mor Aphrem titled "Create in me a pure heart, O Lord." Though it is not possible to grasp the high-soaring spirit of Mor Aphrem, I buttoned up my spirit and created a meaningful translation. Any oversight is on me. I have also voiced this prayer for those curious about the Syriac pronunciation. I hope the Syriac narration will answer the demands which came in regarding this issue. I bring this to the attention of those concerned and hope it proves useful.
